WORLD RECYCLING DAY – A WELCOME BREAK FROM THE OTHER NEWS

World Recycling Day – A welcome break from the other news

We’re living in uncertain times, but one thing was clear before the outbreak of the Coronavirus, and that was the urgent need to use less of the World’s finite resources.

And perhaps more than ever we are becoming conscious of the amount of things we consume or even need to use.

This is why we are sharing this article with our community in Tamworth.

Wednesday 18 March is Global Recycling Day.

It is organised by The Global Recycling Foundation and aims to encourage us all to recycle and make use of what it describes as the ‘Seventh Resource.’

A spokesperson for the organisation said: “Recycling is a crucial part of the circular economy, helping to protect our natural resources. Each year the ‘Seventh Resource’ (recyclables) saves over 700 million tonnes in CO2 emissions, and this is projected to increase to 1 billion tons by 2030. There is no doubt recycling is on the front line in the war to save the future of our planet and humanity.”

The theme of this year’s efforts is turning everyday folk like us into Recycling Heroes.

Here are four quick recycling tips for people in Tamworth.

1)      A simple one. Start thinking about what can be recycled and what can’t – especially when shopping.

2)      Take baby steps. You can’t go from a recycling zero to hero overnight. Begin with the most obvious items like plastic and cans and then start looking for other things you can recycle.

3)      Less is more. By reducing the amount of ‘stuff’ we consume we’re doing our bit for the planet and our future generations.

4)      Rinse and repeat. So, you are using the right recycling bins – great. But remember to rinse out any items that you put in them. This not only ensures the items are easily recyclable but will get rid of any odours that attract rodents or pests.

We hope this article gave you some (compostable) food for thought and provided some relief from thinking about the new C-Word.
